Baby Boomers On Computers

I got a call from my father this evening. He was very serious and asked me where I was. I was afraid he was preparing me for a very heavy conversation. My dad proceeded to ask, "I know you really like these Macs, but why do you think that everyone can iChat Video chat all the time and it never works for me?"

I talked my dad through opening ports and setting a static IP address. That shocked me quite a bit considering that my mom doesn't understand the concepts of the desktop or files and folders.

Shaking Hands Has Got to Go

I wash my hands a lot, but I almost never wash my gloves. We share lots of germs with others. People get sick, people want to shake hands.

Writing like 1st Graders

I can type a word like 'though' in less than half a second. It takes me a lot longer to write it by hand. Now on the rare occasion I'm writing by hand, my hand can't keep up with my mind. I'd imagine this is not uncommon for people who spend more time computing than writing.

News Bubble

Terrible things happen in the world every day and it is fairly easy to be ignorant of them. I watched the news tonight, and I found myself getting depressed by most of the things I saw on it. I wouldn't be the first one to say the news is supposed to scare you.

This makes me think about things blogs and feed readers. You no longer let other people pick what kind of news you see, you now pick what you want to learn about. We are living in a time where if you want, you have the option to only read news about celebrities, or technology, or sports. Is this use of technology and agregation promoting ignorance?

As I think about this now, I am reminded why people say, "Ignorance is bliss."

LOL is abused

LOL (Laughing Out Loud) and ROFL (Rolling On Floor Laughing) don't really mean what they say. LOL means you think something was funny, ROFL means that you are actually laughing hard, maybe even moving your body, but certainly not rolling on the floor, cause then, how would you be typing?

Email Decreases Personal Relatioships Especially in Business

I talk to a lot of people through email, I find it difficult to remember people when all you can associate with someone is their name. For instance, at my job I email back and forth with many customers trying to help provide them with the service they need. I really know nothing about them except their names and it makes it extremely difficult to remember them or their situation. Computers, internet, and email have created a way for people to communicate more efficiently, but at the expense of personal relationships.

Running on Empty

It feels really good to have a full tank of gas in my car. When I am really low on gas it's a pretty shitty feeling and I worry about running out. When I'm running low on gas I get the same feeling as when my cell phone battery is dying. That is so weird, I suppose they trigger the same exact part in my brain. Same with my iPod (myPod) and computer. So anytime one is running low, I tend to freak out about all of them. When I'm running out of gas I feel like I'm running out of cell phone and vice versa. That is a terrible feeling.

Phone Speaker Interference

You know that sound your phone makes if its by a speaker and its receiving a call?
When my phone makes that noise and it doesn't ring or get a text, I am fucking pissed off.

Gray vs Grey

What's the deal? In the dictionary, Grey is defined as Gray. But the pronunciation key for both is [grey].

Man's Best Friend

People say that dogs are man's best friends, I think that is because people like to be friends with people dumber than them. Now I think computers might be man's best friend. Now we go 'hunting' with our computers by our side. It's so easy to blame your computer for being 'stupid.'

Internet Commitment

I guess if you used matchmaker.com to meet your girlfriend and you both decide to stop paying for the service, that's a pretty big commitment.
